This model of Mediation is highly recommended for families with children who are of an age where they are expressing thoughts, views and feelings in relation to their parents’ separation.

Child Inclusive Mediation is a process whereby a trained professional (a child consultant) meets with the children to hear their views, wishes thoughts and feelings about their family situation and ensures, through the Child Consultant’s participation in the Mediation with the parents, that the children’s voice is heard and considered during the parenting Mediation.

The children themselves do not attend the Mediation. The Mediation is attended by the Child Consultant, the Mediator, the parents and their Legal Representatives (if they have lawyers).

The children will not attend the Mediation however will attend with the Child Consultant at a day and time that is convenient to the children, the parents and the Child Consultant prior to the day the Mediation is taking place.

The Mediation typically will take place over a day, with the Child Consultant participating for at least half a day to inform the parents, the Mediator and their Legal Representatives of the children’s views and wishes.

Child Inclusive Mediation is a child focused form of Mediation and is the only model of Mediation where a child’s voice is heard by an independent person (a Child Consultant) and passed on to the parents and the Mediator.
